Solomon’s Article Wins Best in Travel & Destination

I am proud to announce that my article about our time in the Solomon Islands, “Patience of Solomon’s,” has taken first prize in the Boat Writers International Annual Writing Contest!

Judge Carol Pierini said, “Patience of Solomon’s presents a well-documented overview of the Soloman Islands, complete with extensive details for each port. From introduction to the conclusion, this story leaves little untold and is so valuable for others planning a cruise to these islands.

I am particularly excited about this win because the article is a truthful depiction of our time in the Solomon Islands. That is to say, it isn’t all beer and skittles. We thoroughly enjoyed sailing in the Sollies, that’s why we stayed for 10 months. However, it wasn’t always pretty, or comfortable, or easy. I am glad that the judges saw the value in my sharing the real bits, rather than presenting a “highlights reel” of our story.

Originally published in Cruising Helmsman in September 2019, you can read the winning article HERE. And for another story about our time in the Solomon’s check out this article, publishing in Cruising World last month.

As well, the Cruising Helmsman November cover featuring my photo of Kate on anchor in Busuanga got a honourable mention in the Boating Photography category!
